A bunch of aggrevating things happened today:
1. I found out that the guy I dealt with over the phone to have Irwin's cars insured for the time being - until I decide what to do - gave me totally wrong information and I basically paid 1000 $ for the cars not being insured and not driveable by anyone. But, no worries, another coworker from the same insurance company fixed everything this morning and now I am all set.
2. When I cancelled all the credit cards yesterday, I was told that the only thing left was to go to the bank and deal with the checking account and the safety deposit box in person. So, I went to the bank this morning before work and waited over 45 minutes until somebody was able to see me. And then I found out that I need two pieces of paper for the bank to actually close the account and for me to get to the safety deposit box. Those two documents are the death certificate and a so called "letter of testamentary", issued by the probate court which indicates that I am the person that has been appointed as executor or administrator of the estate. I could have saved myself the trouble of going there if I would have known.
3. When I asked my attorney who handles the filings for court etc., what the status is on the death certificate he said that he spoke to the medical examiner who told him that he hadn't issued the death certificate yet because he ordered medical records from Irwin's physician. Now, here is my question... When I talked to the MD when he found Irwin, he said Irwin had a heart attack and that the MD wouldn't even do an autopsy. I wonder what this is about with the medical records... Well, I will have to wait until Monday to call the MD and ask him myself.
4. The laptop is not working from home as it should. I had a problem yesterday and took it to work today. At work the connection and the logon worked fine. Back home again, not working anymore, arggggg... Oh well, I am too tired to check it out some more.
BUT - All my anger went away when I went to Knitch this afternoon for a couple of hours of knitting. I so love the store and my knitting friends. It was so nice to see everyone. I cried a bunch of times but that happens quite frequently these days. I am mascara-free for 10 days now. It is really not worth it... But I left around 7pm before the usually big knitting crowd showed up. Just enough time to meet some people and not get too overwhelmed. And the doggies were waiting at home to get fed and walked anyway.
And I had to buy yarn - of course:

Saucy Supersoft Superwash Merino - named after Famous Steve - Famous Chocolate Fondue by numma numma. Aren't these colors yummy? Makes me almost have an appetite...
And some yarn to make baby booties:

And I drove Irwin's toy to work today - the pimp car (a bright red Toyota Supra). I love that car and I love that Irwin loved it so much. The parking garage at work has a car wash and I treated the car to a hand wash and interior cleaning. Plus, it is so much fun to drive. I just have to watch my speed because it can go 180 miles/hour... And there is no autobahn anywhere around Atlanta...
I am going to be busy this weekend. I'll keep you posted.
HAVE A GREAT FOURTH OF JULY WEEKEND!
PS: Did you know that there is a cow appreciation day? Yeap - July 11:

I took the picture on my way home tonight from Knitch.

One thing I learned, is that you have to be patient about the death certificate. It takes FOREVER for that to get sent out. And make sure you order more copies than you think you will need. Good luck with that. It was GREAT to see you today.

Claudia - when dad died we had some of these same issues. However - if you have a joint bank account you should only need the death certificate - if it is only in his name, you will need both. Also - dad died at home of cancer yet the death certificate was not issued for almost a week after due to paperwork and the medical examiner holding it up- they do it - it is stupid. However in FL you can't even have the arrangements for the remains carried out without the death certificate, so it adds another layer of complication.
If I can do anything for you, please let me know. I wish I could say something helpful, but I don't think there is anything I can say to ease your pain or frustration. But if there is anything, let me know. *hugs*

The only good thing about the incompetent people in the world is that it gives you a legitimate place to focus all the anger and frustration you're feeling over everything else. Kind of a lightening rod, I guess.
By the way, that Numma Numma yarn is gorgeous! You actually inspired me to head over to their Etsy shop. Where, of course, I oohed and ahhed and selected and reselected for 15 minutes and then didn't buy anything because I couldn't decide!
Pardon me now, while I go find a cow to hug!

Knitch is a wonderful place isn't it? So glad you were able to go, knit, relax and soothe your soul.
We just missed getting to see you. My husband and I were visiting Atlanta (shopping & eating), we of course stopped in at Knitch to buy. I had just admired the Saucy that you picked up - good choice. I bought a skein of the Baby Boo Oatmeal and Plums that I had been admiring.
Sorry to have missed you - still holding out hope that I'll see you again at SAFF.
Hang in there - glad you are enjoying some of the "toys" - & love the leg displays you used for your sock pics - he was a very thoughtful man.

EVERYTHING associated with someone's death takes more time and requires more paperwork than seems necessary/possible. I went to the tag office THREE TIMES before I could get my dad's car title transferred to my name. They'd tell me I needed paper X the first time. I'd bring paper X, then they'd say, oh no, you need paper Y. Crazy making.
We had relatively little trouble with the death certificate though, probably because we knew for a week that my dad was dying, and he was in the hospital the whole time.
My bro had issues with the bank too, even though he had full power of attorney. They told him he wasn't on the signature list for my dad's safe deposit box, even though he was.
So sympathies to you. All this after-work just makes everything worse.

Everything is a bigger hassle when you're emotionally drained. Let me know if you need me to call anywhere to find out a list of what you need to make things go quickly. I'm GREAT at making inane phone calls.
I'm so proud to know you, your strength is inspiring. Hugs.

The death certificate can take a long time. I'm seeing that a lot. And it is very frustrating. This should be a time when you can just "be" rather than do. I agree with Jane - order more certificates. You never know who might need one. I just hate that you keep running in to so many obstacles. If I can do anything to help please let me know. I do wish I lived closer so I could bring food, walk dogs...anything!
The car sound like a lot of fun! Be Free and Enjoy!
I was great seeing you last night. You've been in my thoughts daily and it was good to see your face and hear you laugh.
Hopefully I'll see you soon.

I have a skein of the Famous Steve yarn and I haven't decided yet what to do with it. I'll be watching to see what you make.
That sign is very funny!
Keep strong.
