NOTE ON THE "NAME-THE-SOCK" CONTEST

First of all, I love all your suggestions so far - thanks for all the wonderful entries!

Some of your entries suggest a name that's been a movie title or a character in a book, etc. Even tho' I've been told who's ever going to find out that you named a pattern after something famous, I have to say that I don't feel comfortable using a name that may have been copyrighted or trademarked to someone else.

So, I decided to run two polls at the end of the contest. I feel bad that some of you entered the contest and might not get picked because your suggestion is a great one but has a copyrighted name.

For the winner of the second poll, I will also award some sock yarn, but it won't be Wollmeise, sorry. I only have one skein of the beautiful Campari. So, please don't be mad for maybe ending up in the second poll. Really, I love all your suggestions - but I don't want to get arrested by the knitting police. ;-)

And please continue with all the fabulous entries! This is so much fun!

I'd offer to be arrested in your place if it meant to be in contention of winning some of that Wollmeise. I understand there is a very high demand for that these days. I think some people might even give blood for that yarn! I wonder if they allow knitting needles in prison? Probably not.....

OK, if that was not an April Fools joke, I guess Hobbes is out. So instead I would like to offer Liger. A liger is the offspring of a male lion and a female tiger, and does occur in the wild (unlike the Tigon, the opposite cross, which is usually bred in captivity). Ligers are also the biggest of the cats because in that cross the growth inhibiting gene of the female lion is missing. Ligers also like to swim, whereas lions do not.

The movie "Napoleon Dynamite" contains a reference to ligers: "Ligers are bred for their skills and magical powers"
