WORD OF THE DAY - DAS KAMMGARN

Here's another fun word to pronounce:

worsted yarn (noun) - das Kammgarn

I tried to find a definition for this word since in German Kamm means "comb" (the noun) and Garn means "yarn". Here is a definition I found:

worsted yarn: knit made from spun wool, spun woolen thread

I guess that is more used in the sewing world. But at least it has to do with yarn and thread.

Tan:

Speaking as a spinner, my guess on das Kammgarn is that it is called that because worsted yarn is spun from combed wool. Woolen yarn is spun from carded wool. Woolen is fuzzy. Worsted is smooth.
